Product Review
As technology and AI advances, there will be new products that release in the coming years that reflect this change in products. One product that has caught my interest has to be The Meta AI glasses. While the glasses themselves make an interesting fashion statement equipped with new POV video, they seem to be the first line of AI “fashion,” with new Meta Display glasses just being released.
The Meta AI glasses are a product made by Meta in partnership with the Ray-ban and Oakley brands. On the meta website you can find pairs of glasses belonging to both brands. The glasses have a price range from anywhere between $299-$379. The glasses come equipped with options on the color and the color of the frames, the website even gives you an option to submit a prescription if you choose to do so. Each pair of glasses is equipped with a small camera which can be used to record Point-Of-View video unlike any other device, all within the comfortability of wearing glasses. The glasses also have speakers close to the ears which allow you to listen to music through them, Meta AI is also embedded into the system which allows you to ask Meta AI questions like “What is this landmark?”
Customer reviews of the Meta glasses are positive, with many buyers saying they are a functional and useful piece of wearable tech. It is also said that the speaker feature is good for taking calls and listening to music while not having your ears covered like with headphones. I personally know people who own a pair of Meta glasses and are very happy with them. One of my friends when I asked him about the quality of the glasses said that they were great and planned to buy another pair, he also provided video he had taken to let me see for myself since I told him I was thinking about buying a pair. The glasses are currently being sold as Gen 1 and Gen 2, with the only clear difference being the battery life which upgraded from 4 to 8, and the quality of the video you can take increasing from 1080p to 3k/30fps resolution. It is important to note that many reviews say despite the difference in video quality, the change is not much of a difference.
While reviews are positive for the Meta AI glasses in both Gen 1 and Gen 2, it is not without its flaws. One complaint of the product is its ties to Meta, with the Meta display glasses just releasing and adding many features than the normal Gen 1 and 2 versions, customers worry that the reliance on the Meta brand and their products and apps might not hold down products like this in the feature. It is also the worry of buyers what Meta might be doing with the data they collect, but that doesn’t seem like an issue with the normal Gen 1 and 2 versions of the glasses. Another issue with the product is its capture ability in lowlight. Upon further research, the Meta AI glasses Gen 1 or 2 don’t typically capture video well in lowlight. This includes concerts or night settings, so this is something to consider when buying the product.
The Meta AI glasses seem to be a interesting step in the direction of wearable technology. With unique POV video capabilities, speakers, and built in AI assistant, there is no doubt this is a innovation combining fashion, AI, and video all into one product. In the future, if Meta continues to add updates, it will be interesting to see where the concept of wearable technology goes and AI along with it.
